Colivelin is a synthetic chimeric peptide engineered by fusing Activity-Dependent Neurotrophic Factor (ADNF) with the neuroprotective peptide Humanin. This unique hybrid structure was designed to exhibit synergistic neuroprotective activity, capitalising on complementary mechanisms of action from both parent peptides. Colivelin has demonstrated potent inhibition of neuronal apoptosis in preclinical research models, acting via the STAT3 signalling pathway and through modulation of intracellular calcium dysregulation associated with neurodegeneration.
In laboratory studies, Colivelin has been investigated for its capacity to rescue neurons from amyloid-beta-induced toxicity, a hallmark mechanism in Alzheimer’s disease research. It has also shown promise in models of ischaemic neuronal injury and other neurodegenerative conditions, making it a valuable tool in academic and pharmaceutical research settings.
