Follistatin (FST-344) is an endogenous glycoprotein and autocrine signalling molecule first identified for its ability to suppress follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) secretion. It acts primarily by binding and neutralising members of the TGF-β superfamily, most notably activin and myostatin, preventing their interaction with cell-surface receptors. This mechanism has made follistatin a subject of considerable interest across multiple fields of biological research.
In skeletal muscle research, follistatin is extensively studied for its capacity to inhibit myostatin (GDF-8), a negative regulator of muscle mass. By sequestering myostatin, follistatin has been shown in preclinical models to promote significant increases in muscle fibre hypertrophy and hyperplasia. Researchers also investigate its roles in reproductive biology, wound healing, inflammation modulation, and embryonic development.
This untagged premium preparation of Follistatin 344 is supplied as a lyophilised powder at 1mg with ≥95% purity, verified by HPLC analysis. The untagged format is particularly suited to cell-based and in vivo assays where fusion tags may interfere with native binding activity.
