FTPP Adipotide (also known as Prohibitin-Targeting Peptide 1) is a pro-apoptotic chimeric peptide developed for research into targeted adipose tissue reduction. The peptide consists of a targeting domain that binds to prohibitin, a protein overexpressed on the vasculature supplying white adipose tissue, linked to a pro-apoptotic domain (KLAKLAKKLAKLAK). Upon binding, FTPP Adipotide induces mitochondrial disruption and apoptosis specifically within the endothelial cells feeding adipose tissue, effectively starving fat deposits of their blood supply.
In preclinical research, FTPP Adipotide has demonstrated significant reductions in adipose tissue mass and body weight in animal models, with studies also exploring associated improvements in insulin sensitivity and metabolic markers. It is of particular interest in obesity research, metabolic syndrome investigation, and targeted vascular biology studies.
