L-Carnitine (β-hydroxy-γ-trimethylaminobutyric acid) is a quaternary ammonium compound biosynthesised from lysine and methionine, present in virtually all mammalian cells and playing an indispensable role in mitochondrial energy metabolism. Its primary mechanism of action involves the shuttling of long-chain fatty acids across the inner mitochondrial membrane as acylcarnitine esters, enabling beta-oxidation and subsequent ATP generation. Without adequate L-Carnitine, fatty acids accumulate in the cytosol and cannot be efficiently utilised as fuel.

In research settings, L-Carnitine has been extensively investigated in the context of metabolic disorders, cardiovascular function, skeletal muscle physiology, and male reproductive biology. Studies have explored its potential modulatory effects on insulin sensitivity, mitochondrial biogenesis, and oxidative stress markers. It has also been studied in relation to renal function, where endogenous synthesis may be impaired.

Peptician supplies L-Carnitine in a lyophilised powder form with a purity exceeding 98%, across a concentration range of LC120 to LC216 to support diverse experimental dosing requirements. The compound should be stored at −20°C in a sealed, desiccated environment away from light and moisture to preserve integrity.
