SLU-PP-322 is a small-molecule agonist of the oestrogen-related receptors ERRα, ERRβ, and ERRγ, a family of orphan nuclear receptors that play a central role in regulating cellular energy metabolism. Unlike classical steroid hormone receptors, ERRs are constitutively active and govern the transcription of genes involved in mitochondrial biogenesis, fatty acid oxidation, and oxidative phosphorylation. SLU-PP-322 has attracted significant interest within the research community as a potential ‘exercise mimetic’ – a compound capable of activating metabolic pathways normally induced by physical endurance training, without the requirement for exercise itself.
In preclinical studies, SLU-PP-322 has demonstrated the ability to enhance mitochondrial density and function in skeletal muscle tissue, improve endurance capacity in rodent models, and modulate gene expression profiles associated with metabolic flexibility. These properties make it a valuable tool compound for researchers investigating metabolic disorders, obesity, type 2 diabetes, sarcopenia, and age-related decline in physical performance.
