Thymagen, also known as Thymogen, is a synthetic dipeptide bioregulator (Glu-Trp) originally isolated from the thymus gland. As part of the peptide bioregulator class pioneered by Professor Vladimir Khavinson at the St Petersburg Institute of Biogerontology, Thymagen has been extensively studied for its immunomodulatory properties, particularly its influence on T-lymphocyte differentiation and maturation.
In preclinical research models, Thymagen has demonstrated the capacity to restore and regulate immune function by promoting the proliferation and activity of T-helper and T-cytotoxic lymphocyte populations. Its mechanism of action is thought to involve binding to specific nuclear receptors and influencing gene expression pathways associated with immune homeostasis, thymic function, and cellular immunity.
Researchers have investigated Thymagen in the context of immunodeficiency states, ageing-related immune decline, and recovery from immunosuppression. It has also attracted interest in oncology research models exploring adjunct immune support during cytotoxic treatment protocols.
