Thymalin is a naturally occurring peptide complex isolated from the thymus gland of cattle, belonging to the class of short peptide bioregulators first developed by Russian researcher Professor Vladimir Khavinson. It is composed of a mixture of low-molecular-weight peptides and is recognised for its potent immunomodulatory activity in preclinical research settings.
In research models, Thymalin has been shown to influence T-lymphocyte maturation, proliferation, and differentiation, as well as modulate cytokine signalling pathways. Studies have also explored its potential effects on natural killer (NK) cell activity, humoral immunity, and restoration of age-related immune decline, making it a compound of significant interest in immunogerontology research.
Thymalin has been examined in the context of immune deficiency models, oncology support research, and investigations into longevity and biological age regulation. Its ability to interact with hypothalamic–pituitary–immune axis signalling has further broadened its research scope.
