Thymosin Beta 4 (TB-500) is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring 43-amino acid peptide found in virtually all human and animal cells. It is derived from the actin-sequestering protein Thymosin Beta 4, which plays a central role in cytoskeletal organisation, cell migration, and tissue homeostasis.
In preclinical research, TB-500 has been widely studied for its potential involvement in wound healing, angiogenesis, and the repair of damaged musculoskeletal tissue. Its mechanism of action is believed to centre on the upregulation of actin polymerisation and the promotion of cell survival pathways, including activation of integrin-linked kinase (ILK) and downregulation of inflammatory cytokines.
Researchers have explored TB-500 in models of cardiac repair, dermal wound healing, corneal regeneration, and neurological recovery following injury. Its capacity to promote endothelial cell differentiation and migration makes it a subject of interest in vascular biology and regenerative medicine.
